the current morphological term is "horn", not "bony core of horn".

@DrPronghorn is the keratin measured as well as the bony part?

I'm copying Edward's reply here:

"If it just says 'horn' then that means the keratin. If it says 'horn core' that means the bony part. Usually they measure them before the animal is skeletonized, and often the horn stays on the skull even then, so it's safe to assume that modern animals are measuring the keratin sheath."

let's make two terms: one for "horn", meaning the keratin sheath, and "bony core of horn" meaning the skeletonized part.
