Hey Canu Devs,

First, I want to preface my issue by saying that I really appreciate the work you all have been putting into making long-read assembly possible and efficient. Thank you!

I'm currently having an issue using Canu snapshot v1.6 +272 changes (r8684 2b0be11fd1cf1545e67c7016bf1fc4ac3d7c31c9) with a few overlap correction jobs that I have tracked back to the following line in canu/src/overlapInCore/libedlib/edlib.C:

assert(strlen(qry_aln_str) == alignmentLength && strlen(tgt_aln_str) == alignmentLength);

The stack trace I'm recieving is:
