A user submitted this information via the Darwin Core Hour webform:
Timestamp: 2/14/2017 11:46:27
Please provide a topic of interest: grant numbers. I need a field to share that a particular specimen was handled / touched / imaged / etc as a result of a given grant. EML has a field - but I may have a mixed dataset, and I may have (going forward) more than one grant number for a given specimen. Funders (as stakeholders) want to be able to tell which specimen records resulted from their backing.
Are you capable of and interested in participating: No
Who else would you recommend to participate in the presentation: Aggregators (VertNet, GBIF, iDigBio, Symbiota,...), TDWG NCD group,
What resources can you point to:
Your name: Deborah Paul

We have in Norway also this need for terms to organize project information about grants and co-funding for e.g. digitization etc. I suspect there are existing terms that could be used instead of minting new Darwin Core terms? (perhaps foaf:Project) Today dwc:datasetName is used (misused ?) to describe projectCodes linked to grants by Norwegian data publishers.

@debpaul Are you are to coordinate this one? It is outside my area of interest and expertise, aside from being able to elaborate on the process of bringing terms into Darwin Core, if necessary.

@dagendresen we need a plan to discuss moving forward on this. Is it a dwc Hour, or maybe it's a small interest or working group to look into the problem and what's needed to address it. If it's a dwc hour, would you be willing to put it together to present or moderate?

I would be happy to contribute. Not sure if this is quite large enough to fill an entire Darwin Core hour. The best way forward is perhaps to explore if there are existing terms that can be used to build an extension to describe project funding and grants connected to individual specimens.

@dagendresen let's add this to our list on Friday - how to move forward with this. Welcome to the team!

@debpaul @dagendresen Can you give me an example of some records with multiple entries in datasetName? We are thinking of using this to track specimens associated with the EPICC TCN, but anticipate that institutions could want to add several of these names to the same record and wonder what that would look like.

I do not have any examples, but can say that the standard process to make a list in a Darwin Core term is to separate items on the list by " | ", for example, "A | B | C".

I've seen both dynamicProperties and datasetName used to identify an occurrence record as belonging to a particular project, but there seems to be limitations\negatives for both options. Would NCD be a good way to describe these projects and their associated occurrence records as they are essentially digital collections with metadata about the whole similar to the way we might describe a physical collection?

to @eclites i do think that @tucotuco found an example (of a DwC-A where records have multiple values in datasetName)
